WAEC derecognised 35 schools in Rivers Over Exam malpractice

The West African Examination Council has said the Rivers State Government was not responsible for the derecognition of 35 secondary schools over their alleged involvement in examination malpractices.

This was contained in a statement signed by WAEC deputy registrar/zonal coordinator, S.D Kum, and obtained by The PUNCH in Port Harcourt.

This is coming 48-hours after the Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Kaniye Ebeku announced the demotion of 14 principals of public schools, while 21 private schools in the state have their operational license withdrawn as a follow-up action to the delisting of the schools by WAEC.

The WAEC zonal coordinator explained that the affected schools were derecognized as a result of examination malpractice perpetrated in the schools during the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2021.

He stated that the Rivers State Government has been cooperating with WAEC through the Ministry of Education in ensuring sanity and quality Education in the State.

The statement reads, “The attention of the West African Examinations Councils is hereby drawn to the copy of the list of derecognized schools given to the Ministry of Education in Rivers State. We wish to state the following
